The City of Perth will be holding an Extraordinary Election on 18 October 2024
One Councillor position is available, and the term expires on 18 October 2025.

Thursday, 22 August 2024 at 5pm | Close of applications to enrol to vote |
Wednesday, 28 August 2024 | Nominations for candidates opens |
Wednesday, 4 September 2024 at 4pm | Close of nominations |
Friday, 18 October 2024 | Election day |
The City of Perth extraordinary election is being held on Friday 18 October. If you have not received a voting package, please email election@cityofperth.wa.gov.au to find out how to get a replacement package.
If you have not posted your ballot paper package before Monday 14 October, please hand deliver your completed package to Council House before 6pm on Friday 18 October 2024 to ensure it is received on time.

When are the election results announced?The election results will be announced when the counting of votes has been finalised.

Can I do an absentee vote?
No. The extraordinary election is conducted as a postal vote and packages will be sent to the address you have registered with the WAEC (for residents) or the City (for non-resident owners and occupiers).
You will generally receive your package about 3 weeks before the polling day, and your completed ballot papers and declaration can be posted in the reply paid envelope or dropped in the ballot box at the City of Perth Customer Experience centre.

How do I nominate as a candidate for an extraordinary election?
Candidate nominations are the same as they are for an ordinary election, including completing the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (DLGSC) mandatory induction.
The City has been appointed a returning officer, and you may make your nomination to the returning officer (by appointment) between 28 August 2024 and 4 pm 4 September 2024.

Does the information relating to election signs apply to an extraordinary election?
Yes, all candidates must observe the signage rules as listed on the City’s ‘Information for Candidates’ page

Do the gift provisions apply to an extraordinary election?
Yes, candidates and donors must ensure they disclose any electoral-related gifts promised or received within the six months prior to election day, which is 18 April 2024 for the Extraordinary Election 2024.
